Reflection Week 4: How can we make homework worth while

A great blog post used to discuss the importance of the quality of homework versus the quantity. This post includes lots of information on the parents views of homework as well as studies of homework impact. In a recent study it showed that homework in science, english, and history has little to no impact on student test scores. It discusses the idea of  “spaced repetition.” Spaced repetition is the idea of teaching things over a longer period of time instead of in blocks like most teachers do. This article also talks about “retrieval practice,” or the idea of not just assessing what students know, but reinforcing it! She also talks about implementing “desired difficulties” because it is proven that our brains learn better when it has to work harder. Overall a great article with great info on a subject that needs to be implemented in more classrooms!

keep calm and so hw
